Education and Pre-WarAfter Simon Bolivar's parents died, his uncle inherited all of his wealth and decided to give Bolivar a great Education by contracting many tutors. From Caracas, Simon was sent to Europe to complete his education. He lived in Spain for three years and in 1801 married María Teresa Rodríguez del Toro y Alayza, the daughter of a noble Spanish man. He returned to Caracas with his spouse but tragedy stroke when Maria was victimized by the yellow fever. In 1804, he returned to europe, looking for meaning in life. He encountered a childhood tutor, Simon Rodriquez, who inspired Bolivar to read Locke, Hobbes, d'Alembert, Helvetius, Voltaire, Montesquieu, and Rousseau. This authors sparked Bolivars imagination towards Latin American liberty, and on the tops of Monte Sacro, he promised that he ill free his people.
